Wren Riley Designs firmly believes in giving back to the community and the world!
Throughout 2018-2020, Wren Riley Designs has donated bibs, burp cloths, hooded towels, and other baby items to the Huntsville Pregnancy Resource Center in Huntsville, AL. These donations are given to parents after completing a new parents class.
In November 2018, Wren Riley Designs traveled to Myanmar (Burma) with the Roger H. Strait Foundation to teach local women the trade of sewing. 10 women were trained to use treadle sewing machines, as electric sewing machines would be to strong for the local power grid. These wonderful ladies learned to measure, cut, read patterns, and sew. The women were able to construct baby bibs, a cross back dress, a zipper pouch, headband, cross body satchel, pants, and skirts.
In December 2018, Wren Riley Designs donated pillowcases and pillows to children affected by Hurricane Michael. In a joint effort with West Huntsville Baptist Church in Huntsville, AL, over 2 dozen comfort items were given to children as they tried cope with the total loss of their community.
In May 2019, Wren Riley Designs returned to Myanmar to teach a follow up class. 8 of the original ladies returned for an intermediate class and 2 new students joined. The ladies learned to sew pants, skirts, and other garments. We were also able to meet with a tailor from a local facility for adults with special needs. We spoke through a translator about the struggles of the community and shared ideas about sewing projects to help the residents feel a sense of accomplishment and purpose.
Beginning in March 2020, over 200 masks were made and donated to healthcare facilities around the United States to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Donations are ongoing today. Please contact me if you know of a facility in need.
